Wow the temperature has really dropped and to be honest, I’d rather stay at home with the heater on than head out into the cold.

In even feeling that way, there are immediately a couple of things I’m conscious of. We need a cool head and a warm heart this winter.

Firstly, this is a time of year where bugs are spreading like wildfire through offices and people are succumbing to illness left right and centre.

In Australia we are racing toward the end of financial year and in New Zealand, the year is starting to ramp up. Be smart – it’s time to take extra good care of ourselves – remember to exercise, up the vegies and vitamins and aim for some down time between busy weeks.

Secondly, I’m incredibly lucky that if that’s how I really want to spend my day, then I can. Not everyone has that choice.

As I mentioned last week, this Thursday 21 June, I’ll be sleeping outdoors to raise funds to help create change for some of Australia’s most vulnerable people. Next week, joined by MYOB General Manager Julian Smith, on Thursday 28 June, I’ll be doing it again in Auckland to help get Kiwis off the streets.

As you switch on your heater, climb into your bed or jump into a hot shower, please spare a thought for those who can’t access what we often take for granted and sponsor me for the CEO Sleepout in Australia and/or the Big Sleepout in New Zealand.

Have a heart – you’ll be giving other people a choice of where and how they spend their winter days and nights.
